This agreement, built on strong synergies between the microfinance and insurance sectors, marks a significant milestone for the financial institution. It presents an opportunity for Advans Cameroon to strengthen its market position and increase its impact on the communities it serves.
Mamie Kalonda, CEO of Advans Cameroon, stated: “The entry of SUNU Assurances Vie Cameroun is excellent news for our institution. We hope that this partnership will soon allow us to expand our range of products for the benefit of our clients, their businesses and their families, by strengthening our tailored insurance offering, while continuing our mission of financial inclusion, serving Cameroon’s micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.”
SUNU Assurances Vie Cameroun has acquired a 24.88% stake in Advans Cameroon. Advans SA SICAR, the holding company of the Advans group, remains the majority shareholder of the Cameroonian institution.
Dimitri Iriyé, CEO of SUNU Assurances Vie Cameroun, commented: “Joining the capital of Advans Cameroon is more than a strategic investment. It’s a concrete commitment to inclusive and accessible finance. By partnering with a mission-driven player like Advans, we aim to build simple, innovative and useful insurance solutions that are within reach for all – including those previously excluded from traditional financial systems.”
This alliance strengthens a strategic partnership initiated in Côte d’Ivoire. In December 2021, SUNU Assurances Vie Côte d’Ivoire acquired a 10% stake in Advans Côte d’Ivoire. This partnership enabled the launch of insurance products such as Soutra, Hospit, Agrissur and Oukalé – funeral and hospitalization insurance products that have been embraced by over 35,700 Advans Côte d’Ivoire clients to date.
In addition, Advans’ subsidiary in the DRC, Advans Congo, and SUNU Group are currently exploring the possibility of launching insurance products for Advans’ local customer base.
Steven Duchatelle, CEO of the Advans group, concluded: “We are delighted to strengthen our collaboration with SUNU Group, with whom we share a common vision of financial inclusion. Their insurance expertise and pan-African presence enhance our ability to deliver tailored financial services to meet the specific needs of our clients in Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, and beyond.”
