Discover the story of Vicentia, a trader and designer of shoes, handbags, and fashion accessories in Ghana. We thank Advans Ghana for its support to microfinance and women, and its commitment to inclusive finance.

“My name is Vicentia Nana Akua. I’m a business woman. I sell shoes, bags, clutches. I like fashion. As a woman, or a mother, you need to work. That’s why I started this business.

What makes my shop special is that the thing that I’m selling here, no one has them. I do my design. So my own shop is special, different from everyone here.

In the beginning, my husband is the one who gave me money to come and start. But as time goes on, he is doing his business. So now I have to do it on my own.

One day my goods came from China and I had no money to go and claim the goods. So I went to Advans and asked them, and they gave me money to go pay my bills and then bring my goods to the market and sell them. That is how I got to know Advans people. It helped me a lot because, at that time I went there, I had one shop, and now I got like two or three, let me say three.

As a woman, I’m proud of myself because it is not easy for a woman here to work like this. I want to grow fast, have more than ten shops. Higher, bigger.”
